Letter to my younger self about love

    By Aunty Becky

There are oh-so-many things I wish I?d told my younger self about love, if I?d known then what I know now. If I could, I would travel back in time to have a chatty poo with Younger Me about matters of the heart.

So I?ve penned a letter to her from Older and Wiser Me with all the love lessons I?ve learned and would have passed on ? if only I?d known better. a

    Dear Younger Me,

You?re a sweet thing, you know that? Behind that gruff exterior lies a very soft heart. That soft heart, while frustrating at your age, will allow you to do some very good things in the world later in life. Embrace your soft heart and remind...

  • The AZ of love: K is for kids

James Kerr and Matthew Johnstone celebrate the A-Z of love. This week, K is for kids

For most of us, having children is the greatest thing that will ever happen to us. But broken sleep, empty bank accounts and someone else snuggled up between us in bed can deflate even the most ardent of love affairs.

It’s all too easy to transfer the love you have for your partner towards the beautiful, innocent creature that has suddenly invaded your life. So, how do you make love last with a pram in the hallway?

  • Business owners bristle at Mission’s liquor laws

San Franciscos Mission District has grown into a high-end dining and cocktail hub in the past 15 years. But under the citys most restrictive liquor license ban, the neighborhoods grocery stores and new businesses say theyre losing customers because many cannot sell the same alcohol found at the restaurant around the corner.

The ban, which went into effect in 1996, makes it impossible for a business in the central Mission to get a liquor license from the city unless it includes a full-service restaurant.

Two recent exceptions have been made for the Mission Bowling Club and the Roxie Theater. Since the ban was amended late last year to allow them to sell alcohol, other business...

  • AmeriGas Partners, LP Named Top Dividend Stock With Insider Buying and 8.18 …

In this series, we look through the most recent Dividend Channel “DividendRank” report, and then we cherry pick only those companies that have experienced insider buying within the past six months. The officers and directors of a company tend to have a unique insider’s view of the business, and presumably the only reason an insider would choose to take their hard-earned cash and use it to buy stock in the open market, is that they expect to make money — maybe they find the stock very undervalued, or maybe they see exciting progress within the company, or maybe both. So when stocks turn up that see insider buying, and are also top ranked, investors are wise to take notice....

    Year-round residents: 95.

    Size: 1.27 square miles.

Middle Bass Island is the calm away from the storm, where Put-in-Bay partyers retreat for a little rest and relaxation.

The island, with a year-round population of just 95, is perhaps best known for whats not there anymore: The Lonz Winery, site of a fatal balcony collapse in 2000, is now state parkland. Middle Bass Island State Park has been slowly developing into a destination appealing primarily to boaters.

The islands biggest private development, St. Hazards Resort — a complex with condos, cottages, a restaurant and pool — is mired in legal trouble. Owner...

  • Ill. governor finds unlikely allies in business

CHAMPAIGN, Ill. — Illinois Gov. Pat Quinn built his career on populism and consumer advocacy. But, in the middle of what might be his defining political moment, he finds himself in an unlikely alliance with major Illinois business groups in a battle against unions and advocates for the poor.

Quinn has proposed sharp cuts in both Medicaid and pensions for government workers to save billions in expenses the state cant afford to pay. In that, he for the most part has the support of the states business community.

Business leaders say its a surprise the ideas are coming from Quinn — a surprise they welcome.

I have been more comfortable with Governor Quinn since he got elected,...

  • The Appeal of Fajuyi Memorial Park

The popular Fajuyi Memorial Park in the heart of Ado-Ekiti is one of the tourist attractions made prominent by successful governments in Ekiti State, and is meant to boost the Internally Generated Revenue of the state.

The Park was built to serve as the last resting place in honour of the late former governor of the old Western region of Nigeria, Colonel Adekunle Fajuyi, who was also an indigene of the community.
